Range's Two Enemies: Drag and Weight
Aerodynamic drag is the main item of energy consumption at cruising speed; aerodynamic equipment such as side skirts, gap management and rear treatment becomes even more critical on an electric combination than on a diesel one. Low rolling-resistance tyres and correct axle alignment are part of the same calculation. Every kilogram saved from tare weight is credited either to range or to payload; the lightweighting strategy regains value in the electric era.

- Electrical interface: compatibility of the high-voltage line and communication protocol for an e-axle or an electric reefer unit
- Data sharing: the trailer's telemetry feeding weight and drag data into the tractor's range calculation
- King-pin area: swing-clearance control against the chassis and battery layout that differs on some electric tractors
- Brake coordination: balanced operation of the trailer braking system together with regenerative braking
In short: compatibility with an electric tractor is not a single equipment question but a design philosophy. If a trailer ordered today will spend a significant part of its life behind an electric tractor, the specification must be written accordingly.
